In preparation for the migration-themed Carnival Calabar 2017 celebration billed for December this year, the Honourable Commissioner for Information Communication Technology, Chief Offu E. Aya, was seen recently along the metropolis of the Cross River State capital city inspecting already installed smart city installations.
The Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River on ICT, Prince Adjah Adjah, had informed Cross Riverians that these ICT facilities had arrived the state since August. The smart-city installations are meant to ensure a smooth Internet transmission of the activities of the Carnival.
In an August 2017 publication by Daily Trust, the notion of Smart City, 'has evolved from the execution of specific projects to the implementation of global strategies to tackle wider city challenges' especially bringing 'together areas traditionally viewed as separate: energy and mobility, government and health, education and environment. It's aimed at combating the challenges faced in the urban centres'.
Activities in Calabar during December would be heightened such that the need for an ICT-enhanced facility for harnessing the different facets in Calabar like transportation cannot be overemphasised.
