Obasesam Okoi Ph.D, a Nigerian academic in the diaspora, Wednesday, was elected into the leadership of the 3rd August 1961-founded New Democratic Party of Canada NegroidHaven can report.
According to sources, Dr Okoi was nominated and elected into the Executive Council of the NDP of Dawson Trail Constituency in a predominantly white constituency where Black population is approximately 0.01%
Dr Okoi, who is very appreciative to God for his new found status, has noted that his foray in his political party is informed by an inclination for service. According to him, 'In such a highly competitive environment, God still created a small space for me to make a difference. I am grateful. I believe great things happen from humble beginnings. It's about service to humanity'.
According to Wikipedia, 'The NDP evolved in 1961 from a merger of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF). The CCF grew from populistagrarian and socialist roots into a modern socialist party. Although the CCF was part of the Christian left and the Social Gospel movement, the NDP is secular and pluralistic. It has broadened to include concerns of the New Left, and advocates issues such as LGBT rightsinternational peace, and environmental stewardship'. Earlier it said that, 'The NDP has often been Canada's third largest party in Parliament, at times aligning itself with the Liberal Party of Canada, as it did during the minority government of Pierre Trudeau from 1972 to 1974. Following the 1993 federal election the NDP was reduced to fourth place behind the Bloc Québécois, a position it would maintain for most of the next two decades. In the 2011 federal election under the leadership of Jack Layton, the NDP won the second-most seats in the House of Commons, gaining the position of Official Opposition for the first time in the party's history. The NDP then lost 59 seats during the 2015 federal election and fell back to third place in Parliament, though it is their second best seat count to date'.
Congratulations Dr Okoi. You are such an inspiration back here.
