AN OPEN LETTER TO MR ABANDA JOHN UKET, THE NEWLY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF POST GRADUATE STUDENTS GOVERNMENT, UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR
First of all, l wish to say a big congratulations to you on your newly elected position as president of post graduate students government of University of Calabar. It’s a privileged position that only few have attained. l want you to see your emergence as PG president as yet another big task added to the ones already acquired within your PG programme.
As a philosopher, l want you to always remember that it was Plato who said that unless philosophers become kings, there will be no justice in a State. l want to believe that with your emergence as the PG president, justice is close by the door. Research shows that the PG government has always been delivered by a philosopher. I have that confidence in you.
Please be guided against anything that will bring dishonesty to your personal integrity. l want to remind you of your own words that ‘most times, people lack the political good will to do what is right and honourable and that is more reason why they always fail”. Let this be your guide.
It’s my prayer that you succeed and to do that, you need to surround yourself with people who are philosophically-minded and those who will always remind you of the background of where you are coming from. Who will always remind you that wealth is temporary, but good name outlast a genius. Finally, beware of sycophants, they will only lead you to a pit and abandon you in it.
My suggestion is that you consider the post-graduate hostel as a place where you need to declare a state of emergency. The water and toilet sections is a good place to begin with.
Equally see to it that summits are held to discuss some of the challenging issues bothering the PG students. Journals publications could be possible within your list of Achievements.
Once again, congratulations as we anticipate a general win win in your administration.
Signed
Amb. Njemanze Francis O.
