The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, have confirmed the death of a teenage boy who was said to have allegedly drowned in a river in Osogbo.

According to the spokesman of the command, Mr.Babawale Afolabi, the body was said to have been spoted by a farmer while on his way to his farm on Thursday January 4, 2018.

The farmer was said to have reported the incidence at about 1pm on that fateful day to the NSCDC unit within the area where the body was discovered and that the corps’ crisis management unit had since removed the lifeless body.

The farmer, Mutiu Muftau, who was a witness argued thus:

“When I was going to the farm in the morning, I saw some pupils beside the river telling me that there is a corpse in this river.

“I now moved closer to the place to see for myself. Later when we were sure that it was a human body, I went back home to call my mother who followed me to the civil defence office to report so they would know the necessary action to take and they came without delay.”

In the same vein, Mr.Afolabi who also corroborated the incidence said that there is a possibility that the teenager had been dead for two or three days prior to the time in which he was discovered floating in the middle of the river.

However efforts are being made were to identify the deceased.

In Afolabi's words:

“…He should be between the age of 14 and 15 years old".

“We have contacted community leaders to help us to locate the parents of the deceased as well as arrange for his burial,” He said.

Investigations are ongoing to find out the exact cause of the death as more efforts are also being put in place to reveal the identity of the deceased. May his soul rest in peace.
