Chief Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla the Special Adviser to Nigeria's President on Prosecution, Monday, slammed former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) NegroidHaven can report authoritatively.
Obono-Obla who referred to the triumvirate of Chief Obasanjo, former head of state General Ibrahim B. Babangida (IBB) and legal luminary Olisa Agbakoba as political light weights in comparison to his principal President Muhammadu Buhari explained that CNM was nothing more than a hype, political hogwash and bunkum. According to him, CNM can't, under the present Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as Amended, sponsor any interested Nigerian to contest elections. He informed that the independent candidacy was yet to become law so, the CNM is a utopia.
His words, 'All this " coalition " ; " movement " hype is political hogwash and bunkum !
'The "coalition" and or " movement " cannot sponsor candidates to contest any election under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 ( as amended ) ! Anybody who wants to contest the forthcoming election must join either the APC or PDP or any of the political parties registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission ! You cannot therefore dismiss any of the political parties presently existing ! There is no provision yet for independent candidacy ! So the so called " coalition " and or " National Intervention Movement " are utopia !'
Thus, the presidential aide urged Obasanjo and Agbakoba to register their political parties as he reminisced on Buhari's defunct Congress for Progressive Change, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's defunct Action Congress of Nigeria.
'I urge Obasanjo and Olisa Agbakoba to form their political parties ! President Muhammadu Buhari formed the defunct Congress for Progressive Change when he was piqued by The shenanigans of the apparatchiks in the defunct ANPP ! Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu formed the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria when he disagreed with the leadership of the Alliance for Democracy ! President Buhari and Tinubu are tested and shrewd political gladiators who are close to the grassroots ! They are not political light weights like Obasanjo; IBB and Olisa Agbakoba !
It will be recalled that sequel to his more recent open letter to incumbent President Buhari, OBJ had made references to a Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) which even former Cross River governor Donald Duke, etc have obviously identified with.
