The Executive Governor of Cross River State Sen. Prof. Benedict Ayade has approved the last batch of the counterpart funding required to execute the YESSO Programme billed to commence payment in full to the over 5,000 beneficiaries drawn across board in Cross River State next week NegroidHaven has learnt.
This was revealed by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Comr. Asu Okang in a meeting with the YESSO department, Ministry of Youth and Sports today.
The programme which was initiated to provide means of financial support to the vulnerable poor from most rural areas in Cross River State suggests the beneficiaries who will be engaged in menial responsibilities are expected to receive a remuneration of seven thousand five hundred naira (N7,500) monthly.
It will be recalled that in December, 2018 the when asked if the State Government has complied with the ten percentage counterpart funding, Mr Balinwo Ofegobi the Cross River State coordinator of YESSO replied thus, 'the State Government has put in a high level of interest in whatever we're doing at YESSO. However, they're actually yet to come forward with their own financial contributions, obviously for the fact that, the financial position of the State is lean over the period. They have not meet the obligations and it's affecting the implementation of other components, and especially the Public Work Fare (PWF) Unit, in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. We had planned to bring out over five thousand youths from the Streets, and get them to work.
'The Banks have provided the ninety percent of the funding's and no sooner than the State provides hers' we will take off and you can't imagine the massive impact on stamping out social vises from the society." He appealed to the Government, to weather the storm and come forward with their contribution.
