A Nigerian social commentator/public affairs analyst, Mr Simon Utsu, has described as ‘high political immaturity’, the situation where the Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (CRSPHCDA), Dr Betta Edu and the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Creative and Knowledge Economy, Mr Emmanuel Etim were found to be openly identifying with the 2019 presidential aspiration of Mr Omoyele Sowore, the founder of SaharaReporters.
For Utsu, since His Excellency Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor, whereas, Sowore won’t be running under the PDP flag, why identify with such a presidential hopeful being PDP appointees.
Utsu while emphasising maturity especially in respect of the #NotTooYoungToRun movement, dismissed Etim and Edu’s inclination as ‘needless exuberance’.
Hear him, ‘When we talk of not too young to run/lead, we should also emphasize on maturity as well as capacity- it shouldn’t just end with age. I’m saying this because last week, two of Governor Ayade’s senior aides, Mr Emmanuel Etim and Dr Betta Edu displayed a high level of political immaturity when they turned up at a political event organized by a 2019 presidential aspirant, one Omoleye Sowore who apparently won’t be running under the PDP.
‘Why would appointees of Prof Ayade, a PDP Governor, allow themselves to be caught on camera smiling and fraternizing with someone who is anti-PDP in all ramifications? This to me was a glaring, unacceptable and punishable act of insubordination and misconduct. The PDP could read several meanings to this – “could it be that Ayade gave them clearance to attend an anti-PDP gathering” being one of them!
‘I don’t think they deserve any severe punishment from the Governor being first time offenders but forthwith, the above aides should eschew such needless exuberance and desist from committing such blunders that can only serve but to increase their bosses’ political liability net value.’

Recall that on May 2018, Sowore visited Calabar, Cross River state in respect of his 2019 presidential aspirations.

Another aide of the Governor was also involved, the Special Assistant on ICT, Prince Adjah Adjah, making it three.
The argument has been woven around whether they were in error or not. Some have said, they were exercising the right to freedom of assembly, and opinion, others have said that right was undermined immediately they accepted their appointments as aides in a PDP-administered government.
What do you think? Have your say.
My own be say, Utsu should leave my friends alone mbok! I think they were just being real to themselves.
