Access Schools, Calabar commenced the Chinese Language Sandwich programme for twenty four pupils during this year's long holiday season. NegroidHaven can report authoritatively.
Access Schools which is privately owned by Chief Gabriel Umoren is organising this sandwich programme in collaboration with the Nanjing Polytechnic Institute (NJPI), an international education school located in the Jiangsu province, China.
According to High Chief Umoren, he deemed it necessary to midwife a process for study of the Chinese language seeing that the China has overtaken the French in numerous regards. Umoren who didn't see any reason why Nigerians shouldn't learn Chinese if they learn French, argued that 25% of the Nigerian economy is controlled by the Chinese. For him, it was apposite that Nigerians study the language, culture and work ethics of the Chinese to actually understand what they are doing in Nigeria.
High Chief Umoren disclosed that, 'We have eight scholars from Bansara community, and five from Woda community, both communities in Ogoja and Yala LGA respectively. A company called Gab Ltd is doing rice production in Ogoja and Yala and under their corporate social responsibility, these are the first set of beneficiaries. They will be in Access for 7 years before they proceed to China for their university education. We thought they should be the first beneficiaries of the programme.
'We will like to offer Chinese come this September. Meanwhile, this morning we are here to officially open this sandwich programme and see what the children can benefit from them.
Ms Cong Qian the Deputy Director of the NJPI while addressing the audience of Chinese language students informed that her Institute which is located in the richest province in China and founded in 1968 collaborates with over 80 colleges around the world while coordinating over 500 language students. It offers over 14 varied language programmes.
According to Qian, 'Our institute is a national language public school which was founded in 1968. This year November 10, we are going to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We have 10 colleges, 15 majors, 3 teaching departments and 1 national training base. We provide academic education with three years national diploma with certificate courses.' She added that she believes that the students will have an interesting time during the course of the study.
The Commissioner for Education who was in Abuja for a national council for education meeting was represented by Evangelist Mrs Agnes Ebri the Director of Examinations, Ministry of Education as well as the Director of Educational Resources in the Ministry, Barr. Bassey O. Ebri said this is a welcome idea and encouraged other schools to emulate Access adding she 'would love Nigeria to be like China.'
NegroidHaven further learnt that Access Schools has entered into a formal pact with the Huai'an Vocational College of Information Technology (HCIT), Jiangsu, China on educational development cooperation.
