The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections that should have held today. The reasons advanced by the electoral body are inadequate logistics and operational planning. It is a surprising and regrettable development given the assurances by INEC of its preparedness for the elections. Voters had been fully mobilised by the APC and materials, both non sensitive and sensitive received by INEC. We were very ready for the elections.
However the reasons advanced by INEC appear genuine and in good faith. This is more so that there is a statutory responsibility on the electoral body to deliver a free, fair and credible election that will legitimize the results. On that note, we believe INEC deserves our understanding, support and cooperation at all times.
Nonetheless, it is still disappointing that the electoral umpire could not get its acts right even after having a reasonable period of four years to prepare for these elections. Be that as it may, we enjoin all our supporters to stay calm and keep hope alive. A one week extension only postpones our celebration of certain victory. On our part, we will continue to work hard during this period to sustain your wonderful support and goodwill. We will not rest on our oars until we lay our hands on the ultimate prize, which is the victory you desire for us. All we ask is that you keep the faith.
Thank you and God bless.
