Pelican Stars Football Club of Calabar may miss this year's Nigeria Women Pro League Season if adequate financial provision is not made for the club to join their counterparts in Kogi state for the competition scheduled between 3rd to 7th October 2019.
This may not be unconnected to the salary arrears owed players of the club for over four months now.
The information released by the Nigeria Women Football League website shows that four clubs which include Pelican Stars FC of Calabar, Police Female Machine FC of Uyo, Moje Queens FC Ilaro and Olori Babes FC of Warri were shortlisted for the zonal competition.
The women's team which has always excelled in their outing at the Nigeria Women Football League are proud 8th times champions of women football in Nigeria with other laurels attached to their credit.
The club's performances at National Competitions had also placed the state high in football ranking and sporting activities.
An interaction with the female players shows that the non payment of their monthly allowances had adversely affected their welfare and body maintenance.
One of the players said that she could no longer afford money to buy her sanitary pads since the allowances stopped coming.
She however, appealed to Governor Ben Ayade and his wife Linda to come to their aid by putting smiles on their faces.
In spite of all the challenges, the club has been meeting up with their training sessions promptly at the scheduled days.
As the days draw closer for the competition, the players are appealing to Ayade who has always motivated them to win trophies to show them love and kindness by releasing funds for their allowances to be paid and also enable them to compete favourably in the 2018/2019 season starting with the Nigeria Women Pro League Season in Kogi state.
