Journalist George Odok Jnr., the Cross River correspondent of News Agency of Nigeria NAN, has drawn the attention of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution PHED company to an impending danger in the state NEGROIDHAVEN can say.
This call is premised on an ill-fated electric pole hanging precariously with high tension wire a top at Chambley roundabout, close to the Oando filling station, Calabar South.
Odok did this through a social thread titled, ‘Attention: Portharcourt Electricity Distribution Company; Cross River State Government’ where he also drew the attention of the state government to the plight.
His words, ‘The attention of the above company and the state government have been drawned to an ill fated electric pole situated at Chambley roundabout, close to the Oando filling station, Calabar South.
‘The basement holding the pole is almost completely cut-off as the pole is now surviving due to the two rods holding it. In spite of that, the pole is still holding high tension wires at the top.
‘Urgent steps should be taken to replace this pole before we witness another tragic accident similar to what happened in Nyagasang community few years ago when a high tension cable fell on the roof of a football viewing centre, killing over 11 persons.
With the heavy rainfall, it is unpredictable how long this pole will be standing tall. I have equally informed PHED about this electric pole and the urgent need to replace it before another ugly incident occurs. Prevention is better than cure!’
