Dr (Mrs) J.D Ekpenyong is a product of Igbinedion University, Okada with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.), who then proceeded to University of Glasgow, United Kingdom for Master of Public Health (MPH), 2014 – 2015.
As a future Health Administrator she did a course at the University of Washington on Leadership and Health Management in 2016 before adding another course on Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases for Nigeria from Southern Medical University, Guangzhou China in 2018.
In her continuous quest for knowledge Dr. Ekpenyong also obtained certifications and training on Health Financing Policy for Universal Health Coverage, Domestic Resource Mobilization and Public Financial Management (DRM and PFM ).
Untill her appointment on 2nd January, 2020 by His Excellency, Senator Prof. Ben Ayade as the second Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, she was Health Financing Technical Advisor TB/HIV DRM and PFM Activities (USAID-Health Policy Plus Project) August 2019 till date. Before then she had previously worked as Nigeria Senior Health Financing Advisor (Consultant) (USAID-Health Policy Plus Project) August 2019 – September 2019, Operations/Support Personnel SAII Associates (Chemonics) USAID- Global Supply Chain Procurement and Supply Management Program April 2019 to June 2019 and Health Financing Technical Officer (USAID – Health Finance and Governance Project) and Associates from January 2018 to September 2018.
Her meritorious services to Cross River State Government includes being Cross River State Health Financing Consultant for Cross River State Health Insurance Agency from October 2018 – March 2019 and Cross River Primary Health Advisor for Cross River State Primary Health Care Development agency from January 2016 – October 2017.
Until her appointment Dr J.D Ekpenyong is a firm believer and committed fellow to the attainment of Universal Healthcare Coverage by Cross River before 2023. As Director General her desire is to consolidate on the recent gains by the previous leadership of the agency under the watchful eyes of Dr. Betta Edu and take the agency to even greater heights were sound Primary Healthcare services will be made available, accessible and affordable to Cross Riverians and other residents in line with the vision of the Governor His Excellency Senator Prof. Ben Ayade.
Dr. (Mrs.) J. D. Ekpenyong is passionate about the eradication of preventable diseases and healthcare delivery to the less privileged in the society. She has extensive voluntary services under her belt.
She is happily married to Mr. David Ekpenyong and blessed with kids.
