COVID-19: UCTH has 2 refurbished ventilators at the Isolation Center…CMD denies receiving ventilator from CRSG

The Chief Medical Director, CMD, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital,UCTH, Prof Ikpeme Ikpeme has revealed that the isolation centre has only two functional ventilators in their isolation centre.
He also revealed that they were refurbished by their biomedical engineers in the space of two weeks appealing to government to assist them becuase the hospital as a whole has only three.
Prof. Ikpeme made the revelation while briefing journalists at the weekend in Calabar added that they have not received ventilators from anyone during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said in the eventuality of an outbreak in the state, they may be overwhelmed because they only have 5 bed spaces with two fuctional ventilators that were repaired by their team of biomedical engineers.
His words: "A lot of credit to our biomedical engineers, in the midst of all this, when it was difficult to get ventilators, they picked up two old ventilators that had not worked for years and within two weeks they made it work effectively and efficiently.
"Should we be overwhelmed there will be problem because there is the need to expand the place so as to 
"Has the Cross River state government donated ventilators to UCTH Isolation Centre, the answer is no, they might probably have plans to do so but we have not recieved any ventilator from them, we have three functional ventilators in the hospital as a whole two at the Centre and one in our ICU," he said.
