Calabar 6AM to 10PM Curfew: Abuja-based lawyer drags Gov Ayade to court

Abuja-based legal practitioner, Efa Oka, recently disclosed he has filed a suit to determine the powers of the Cross River state governor, Ben Ayade (himself a lawyer), to impose an indefinite curfew in the state capital city NEGROIDHAVEN can say.

Lawyer Oka who revealed he has joined the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps in the suit, observed that Ayade’s fight against insecurity is a short cut.

His words, ‘Just filed a case testing the power of the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Benedict Ayade, to declare a Curfew in Calabar Cross River State, indefinitely. I joined the Police, army, Civil defense, navy and air force. You don’t fight insecurity by employing short cuts. You don’t also punish everyone for the sins of a few miscreants.’

Recall that on December 2020, Gov Ayade imposed a 6AM to 10PM curfew as a result of rampant kidnapping in the state capital metropolis. The Governor tasked Operation Akpakwu to implement the curfew.

While Operation Akpakwu has been reportedly successful, Nigerians who residents in the state capital have repeatedly called on the state government to review the curfew.
