UNICROSS lecturer’s publication adjudged best engineering publication in Nigeria

A publication by Dr. Joseph Onah Ukpata of the Department of Civil Engineering of UNICROSS has been adjudged as the best engineering publication in Nigeria.

The publication is titled: ‘Expansion of CEM I and slag-blended cement mortars exposed to combined chloride-sulphate environments.’

P.A. Muhammed Basheer and Leon Black, both of School of Civil Engineering, University of Leeds, United Kingdom, co-authored the publication, with Dr. Joseph Onah Ukpata as the lead author.

His publication emerged as the best in this year’s edition of an annual competition amongst universities in Nigeria, organized by Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET).

Nineteen (19) projects authored by Engineers in various Faculties of Engineering were submitted for this year’s edition of the competition.

Awards for the best 3 projects (including Dr. Ukpata’s overall best) are expected to be presented during this year’s Assembly of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). The Assembly is scheduled for Abuja, from August 7 to 11.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Professor Augustine Angba, has described the news of Dr. Ukpata’s achievement as another example of ‘good news all the way for UNICROSS’.

Dr. Ukpata is the current Acting Head of Department of Civil Engineering in UNICROSS.
