Residents of number 2 Jebbs Streets are still trying to unravel how and why a little dog could bite off the private part of its owner leading to his tragic death during the yuletide period.

The man named Ani Offiong Offiong from Ikoneto in Odukpani local Government Area and resident at Jebbs Street in Calabar South Local Government Area on the eve of Christmas had drunk much alcohol and when he retired to his apartment, he forgot to lock the door.

Following the effect of the drink, he urinated and excreted on his body while lying on the floor of his parlour and one of his dogs on perceiving the odour of the excreta went into the house and ate the excreta and not satisfied the little dog bit off the private part of the man and ate too thinking it was part of the excreta.

First son of the man named Offiong Offiong Ani told our reporter that he was not around when the incident happened but when he came back, his cousin, Etim narrated to him what happened and that the little dog had been killed and thrown away.

The Etim told our reporter that the man was a herbalist and the little dog was brought to man who was his uncle to train.

“The man had two dogs, tiger which was the big one and the little one that had no name and it was the little one that did it because we saw blood on its mouth and nose.

“When my uncle screamed, I tried to get inside thinking it was hoodlums that attacked him but he pointed at his private part and I saw blood I ran outside”.

Etim said it was some neighbour who went in and tried to save the man but before they could clean the man and take him to hospital it was too late and the man died on the way.

“It was really late at night and going by the time of year, it was difficult to find means to take him to hospital and even then most hospitals were not open that time of night”.

He said the man was buried the next day at Hawkins cemetery in Calabar- South.

Ms Irene Ugbo, the Cross River Police Command spokesman said the police had not been informed of the incident.

“I have not heard about the incident and I dont think our division in Calabar- South is aware of it, they would have reported the matter”.
