Nigerian youth should participate in legislation… Speaker C/River Youth Parliament

Rt. Hon. Gideon Mbukpa the Speaker of the Cross River State Youth Parliament has stated that Nigerian youth have a role to play in legislation NEGROIDHAVEN can report.

Mbukpa made this disclosure in Calabar the Cross River state capital metropolis during the first ever Legislative Conference which held this week.

The youthful Speaker who said that youth can register their reservation against any decision of government reassured Nigerian youth of the disposition of the State Youth Parliament to defend their cause and aspirations.

While addressing NEGROIDHAVEN exclusively Mbukpa observed, ‘The youth have a role also to play… In the aspects of them passing bills, it is pertinent that the youth should liaise strongly with the Parliament, in whichever bill, law that was moved which is not in favour of the youth, the youth can inform the parliament through our email, Facebook page; then we can make a resolution to the Cross River State House of Assembly telling them this is what we don’t like.’

Rt. Hon. Mbukpa informed that his parliament will embark on oversight excercise in the bids to garner information about the challenges of Youth across the state, ‘The Cross River State Youth Parliament will announce her committees in January 2022 and we are going to do a whole lot of oversight cutting across the 196 council wards. After which we will notify the general public through the media.

‘As a matter of fact, we are also going to organise a public hearing in that regard to get facts that affects young people.

‘You know there is unemployment in the state. There are a lot of issues that affect young people. We are going to get these raw information from the grassroot and make the House of Assembly know that these people should be taken care of.’

The event which took place at the Prof Eyo Ita House witnessed the attendance of the Speaker of the 9th Cross River State House of Assembly, CRSHA Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones Williams; Rt. Hon. Dr. Ekpo Ekpo Bassey the House Committee Chair on Health, Mr George O’ben Etchi the state commissioner for Social Housing, Comr. Dan Obo the state chair of National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN amongst others.
