The federal lawmaker representing Cross River South at the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Gershom Bassey, has given insight into why he disbursed the sum Forty thousand Naira to Cross Riverians on Thursday NEGROIDHAVEN can report.

Sen. Bassey who said that he was keen about the economic well-being of women across the state added that he anticipates a situation where the women will ply the money into their respective businesses and multiply it

His words, ‘My thinking when we were putting together this empowerment was that there was the need to energise and invest in small businesses across the state.

‘And the owners of the small businesses predominantly are the women –whether it is the woman in the market, the woman that is doing the catering business, the woman that is doing any business, predominantly the small businesses in the state are run by the women.

‘We’ve done many empowerments, but today’s own is directed specifically for the woman. Of course, everybody knows everything about the woman being the backbone of the family and so on. So, what we said was ‘if we can inject a little bit of money into your businessess across the state we will help in a small way incrementally add value to your business.’

Sen. Bassey explained that a fewer persons will get the sum of twenty thousand Naira while a majority will get forty thousand Naira each.

According to the lawmaker, ‘So, we are giving out, I think it’s, Forty thousand Naira each, a few people may get twenty thousand Naira or so, but very few… Maybe about a hundred people… But, a vast majority of you, probably 80 percent of you are going to get N40,000 each for your businesses.

‘Of course, we will not monitor what you do with that money, it’s not my business, but my advise is that you use the money to grow your business, and to make your business more viable. From that forty thousand Naira, you may be able to generate another forty thousand Naira’, Gershom Bassey said.
