Three terms federal lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo, has resolved the political dilemma between agitations for rotation of designated political offices and throwing these seats open for every one to vie for NEGROIDHAVEN can report.
Rt. Hon. Asuquo who disclosed that zoning has been a party’s constitutional provision observed that the constitution of the Nigerian State stipulates that anyone is eligible to vote and be voted for irrespective of a party’s legal instrument. For him, the constitution of Nigeria which is supervening has to be married with that of any party.
The federal lawmaker made this disclosures on Friday during the official declaration to run for office of Governor of the state at the People’s Democratic Party, PDP secretariat in Calabar the state capital.
His words, ‘…In getting a candidate, we have seen zoning in the Councillorship elections, we have seen zoning in the House of Assembly or Chairmanship (elections), we have seen zoning even in Senatorial areas (elections), zoning is the way to go in line with our Constitution.
‘Mr Chairman, I am a lawmaker, I swore to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having in mind that I have allegiance to my party’s constitution, I have a supreme allegiance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which guarantees that you would belong to a political party, you have a right to vote and be voted for in an office, so any of my friends or brother that feels disenfranchised when we do what is needful by our Constitution, he has the right to come to contest.
‘So, this executive will marry the constitution of our Party and the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, Mr chairman, that is the way to go for our party.’
Asuquo stated that he was there to inform the state PDP EXCO that he is interested in running for governor of Cross River while adding that he is confident he will clinch the party’s guber ticket and will through inter-party relationship win the general elections eventually.
