As reactions continue to trail the massive bank robbery that took place in Uromi, Edo State on Thursday, some Nigerians have shifted attention to two soldiers seen in a viral video taking cover during the operation which reportedly lasted for over an hour.

While many faulted the military personnel for not challenging the armed robbers, others however defended their inability to engage in a shoot out with men of the underworld on the basis that the military operates strictly on orders, and that again, the two soldiers were outnumbered by over 12 heavily armed men.

Below are some of the arguments captured on the trend:

@I_Am_Ilemona: “That video of soldiers hiding while robbers operated in Uromi hurt me sha. Their reactions would have been different if they were facing unarmed civilians.”

@MrOdanz: “Two unarmed soldiers happen to be around the scene of a robbery involving more than 12 heavily armed men but somehow they are meant to be brave and face the robbers according to Twitter. Have you ever seen a uniform man that was spared if they’re spotted during a robbery?”

@DejiAdesogan: “Have seen that viral video. So we are expecting 2 Soldiers to face over 12 Heavily Armed Gang during the daring robbery attacks on commercial banks yesterday in Uromi, Edo State.”

@GeorgeUtehh: “The rule of engagement of the police is different from the Army. While the police can perform the duty of military/operation without orders, the army cannot engage without an order. In dis case anyways, it’ll be unsuccessful, but if they are successful, they’ll be court marshalled.”

@Rex_Supremo: “This is untrue actually. They don’t need an order to defend life and properties.Though that’s not their primary job which is to defend the sovereignty of the country.”

@ItsGeGeLe: “Reading comments shows how many of you don’t under the operation of any security force.

The soldiers cannot just engage the robbers like that. It doesn’t work in such a way.”

@ovoFlaminghot3: “So for over an hour they couldn’t call in reinforcement? Couldn’t reach out to the police, nothing?? Just hide on full military uniform when civilians where standing until the robbers left but when it is to shoot unarmed protesters they’ll be pumping chest???”

@Lalacious4: “You see the replies under this explaining and defending those soldiers hiding while robbers terrorise fellow citizens. its why nigeria cant be better.If you have means japa.Or be corrupt.”

@czide_v: “So wait oh

Make only two soldiers go fight armed robbers wey reach 20?”

@jadesimiO: “Na video game cause am, becos I don’t see how just 2 soldiers will face over 15 fully armed robbers.”

@HrhBiessesto: “Seriously!! Did u expect only 2 soldiers to face those guys with sophisticated guns. Maybe na only two bullet Dey dem soldier gun and dem don call barrack, barrack no get fuel. Make dem waste themselves?? Bible self talk am say โ€˜Blessed is the servant that applies wisdom”

@RepairerTable: “How do you battle over 26 armed men with an assault rifle with 2 magazines at most? Without a command of engagement, no military man is allowed to engage else will face court martial if the case gets out of hand. If you don’t know about rules of engagement, don’t tweet nonsense.”

@Kingjephrie: “When they oppress civilians, they donโ€™t remember these things or it doesnโ€™t apply to unarmed civilians..???

They can call for backup when dealing with someone that slapped a soldier, but canโ€™t call for backup when they are faced with deadly robbers???

Make it make sense!”

@Josh4Humanity: “The civilians they are killing and abusing don’t have families? What stopped them from calling for backup?”

@NonsoOkaforC: “The morale of the Nigerian soldiers are on lowest low because of the way the country treats those that loses their lives in the line of duty. Don’t blame them for hiding, this country is not worth dying for.”

Residents of Enugu State have expressed mixed feelings over the State Government’s ban on the operations of Tricycle, Motorcycle and Tipper-Truck in all the communities in Nkanu East and Nkanu West local government areas.

According to reports, the ban also extended to the neighbouring communities of Amechi Uno, Amechi Awkunanaw, Amechi Uwani, Obeagu Main, Obeagu Uno, Centenary City/Obunagu, Obeagu, One day, Garki, Akwuke, Ugwuaji, Ndiagu Onunyo, Maryland, and Ikiriki, all in Enugu South Local Government Area.

Some of those who supported the ban said it will bring down activities of criminals within the affected areas to the barest minimum.

Meanwhile others standing against the State Government’s ban believe that it will throw up new challenges in movement of passengers, as well as create unemployment among operators of tricycles.

@nonniblaze: “Ifeanyi Gburugburu is madd and has no one to tell him. How do you ban keke in a city like Enugu? As per why?”

@Chisq4impact: “Itโ€™s long overdue. Kudos to the governor. Though I doubt such

Keke has become a complete nuisance in Enugu city

Itโ€™s better we all exercise.”

@Manuel_Okereke: “Whenever you make a post like this, please tag Enugu govt so they see the effect of their useless decisions on their subject via comments.”

@Drizdave1: “What measures are to be put in place to accommodate people that donโ€™t reside close to major transport routes?”

@EjioforOnyishi: “You can stop them from applying some routes but not total ban.”

@hyacinth_okoro: “I support the ban.

Let sanity return to the city.”

A cross-section of Nigerians on social media seem to have disagreed with the cousin of the Emir of Kano Prince Isa Bayero for asking the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to take punitive actions against Air Peace over what he termed โ€œdisrespectโ€ to the Emir and people of Kano.

Prince Bayero was said to have called the Air Peace Chairman, Mr Allen Onyema to delay the airlineโ€™s morning flight to Kano because their flight from Banjul, the Gambia, was delayed which prevented them from arriving on time at the airport.

Many who expressed their views on the issue faulted Isa Bayero, stating that an airline cannot compromise operational standard just to satisfy an individual, especially when it has to do with a commercial flight that carries other passengers on board.

Some also advised the Emir to get a private jet for himself or better still use a chartered flight so as to keep his respect intact.

@AishaYesufu: “Poverty is a bastard.

That’s the part he should angrily go and buy the Emir a private jet.”

@Dann_10: “This just cracked me up… even molue no dey wait for person, let alone a commercial airplane. It seems the petitioner(s) think air peace is the private airline for the Emir.”

@19Yasser: “As a Kano indigene, I don’t feel disrespected, rather feel embarrassed for bringing Kano people into this.”

@SOluwamola: “What a disrespect to almighty emir of Kano! The Kano emirate wants airline to start compromising standard because of one mortal man that may not be there when the repercussion escalates. OYO is their case.”

@APCbyebye2023: “Go to court if you want or go start your own airline. Your emir will be disrespected again and again especially if he doesnโ€™t respect himself or conduct himself properly within the jurisdiction of the airline.”

@inimfo_n: “Doesnโ€™t your emir know how to check his time and get to the airport early? Or better still you can do a gofundme and buy your emir a private jet na.”

@ObioraAnaelo: “Let’s not attach much sentiment to this. I think airpeace erred by not delaying that flight to Kano if it was their fault they arrived Lagos late from Banjul. This has nothing to do with the emir or any high profile Nigerian, anyone can feel aggrieved.”

@kingempO1: “So the plane that was taxing about to take off should be called back from the runway? Air peace offered them an alternative of no extra cost to Abj & then, to Kano by 7am and they refused. They should get out abeg.”

@Dipoinspires: “The Emir has a case here, and this is not because he is the Emir. If the account of Isapilot is true, then Air Peace Should have given them due consideration. Again not because he is the Emir, but because the Airline caused the delay.”

@LutherIbe: “Is the pilot to obey operational procedure or to obey Emir of Kano. We are absolutely funny in this contraption called Nigeria. Let the Emir tell British Airways or Air France pilot to wait for him. Maybe, DG NCAA is a northerner that will comply to such directive.”

@RossiLagus: “If the emir was travelling abroad, would they have requested the foreign airline to be delayed because of the emir? I hope the NCAA properly make them understand why the emir was completely wrong.”

@tweetJudon: “Wow wow, how much more backward can some people be? There is reason for private jet services, but no, you want a commercial airline full of passengers be delayed for one Man? Nigeria kai.”
