The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) suffered another setback on Monday as it lost several of its members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akpabuyo Local Government Area.

Recall that PDP last week Friday lost about 300 members in Eneyo Ward who defected to the APC when the campaign train of Hon. Bassey Ekpo, the APC candidate for the state assembly by-election, made a stop over in the ward.

The latest defection followed the grand finale of the Hon. Bassey Ekpo campaign rally which had been on for three days, thus covering the ten wards that make up the constituency.

Speaking while receiving over 253 defectors in Ikang North, Ikang South, Ikang Central and Atimbo East, Chairman of APC, Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, who was represented by the State Secretary of the Party, Barr. Offiong Mensah, assured the new members that they will enjoy all the benefits of belonging to the party. He promised them that the party will carry them along.

Meanwhile, Senator Florence Ita Giwa, who was part of the campaign entourage, advised the people of Akpabuyo and the three wards in Bakassi not to be misled, but should be resolute in voting Hon. Bassey Ekpo for the state house of Assembly seat.

On his part, Dr Ekpo Ekpo Bassey, member representing Bakassi State Constituency, urged the people to get their voter cards ready and also ensure that they vote for APC, noting that the party is the only platform that can address the challenges facing the average Bakassi man.

Also, the Chairman of Bakassi, Hon. Amboni Iyadim, said it is necessary to vote in the APC candidate, especially that Bakassi really needs the attention of the federal government which is controlled by the APC to resolve the lingering issues in the LGA.

Chapter Chairman of APC in Bakassi, Sir Gerald Esin, in his welcome address said Ikang north, south and central wards will vote for APC.

He said voting for APC will be a way of appreciating Governor Ben Ayade for the project embarked upon in Bakassi and the appointment given to Bakassi sons.

Present at the event were the deputy chief of staff, Chief Ani Esin, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Barr. (Mrs) Rosemary Archibong, amongst others.
