Ita-Giwa who observed that the political culture of rotation of political power precedes peace and stability noted that the south has refrained from being confrontational in its bids for the rotational designation of the office of governor to the south adding that no senatorial district in terms of numerical strength can independently, singlehandedly produce an occupant for the office of governor.

Her words reads in part, ‘All the three senatorial districts know that our demands for power to return to the southern senatorial district is equitable, justiciable, fair and is the proper thing to happen at this time.

‘Furthermore, we like to use this opportunity to call on every well-meaning Cross Riverian to rise in support of power rotation and return of power to the southern senatorial district come May 29, 2023.

‘We are convinced that every well-meaning Cross Riverian in our state is aware that our state has witnessed continuous peace and stability as a result of power rotation from one senatorial district to another since 1999 to date.

‘…Cross River state has been the envy of Nigeria. That we have been able, over the years, to shift power from one senatorial district to another without any fight, without any problem, so it should continue like that. And that is why we are here to bid for without being confrontational.’

Speaking earlier, Chief Asuquo Ekpenyong Snr the Chairman of Ekondo Microfinance Bank and convener of the event eulogised the state governor, Sen. Benedict Ayade, for being consistent since 2015 in his declaration of support to the idea of political rotation of power especially that of the office of governor. Chief Ekpenyong said that ‘We are today going to acknowledge that we have a governor who has identified with us –Gov Ben Ayade.

‘We have been struggling all along trying to put ourselves together but, we have a governor who has been consistent… Right from 2015 when he took over as governor of this state he had made it very clear that he will return power to the south at the end of his regime… 2018 again publicly he also made statements to the fact that power will come back to the south at the end of his term. Recently, we also are witnesses to the fact that he had emphasised the fact that power will return to the south. For a man who has been so consistent, a man who has identified with the south, I think it is right to acknowledge him and appreciate him’, he affirmed.
