As part of conversation around the EndSARS Protest Memorial this year (20th October), a Nigerian human rights lawyer based in Calabar the Cross River state capital city has tasked the state government in respect of disclosing the findings of the Panel of Judicial Inquiry into Police Brutality in the state.

James Ibor of Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, BRCI on Thursday argued that the findings of the judicial panel headed by Hon. Justice Michael Edem former Chief Judge of the State is yet to be disclosed. He insisted that it is the right of Cross Riverians to know.

His words in part, ‘Recall that Gov. Sen. Ben Ayade of Cross River State set up a Judicial Panel of Inquiry to receive complaints about Police Brutality.

‘Petitions were received and reviewed by the Hon. Justice Michael Edem’s Panel. The Panel was funded with our taxes but it is two years now, the Governor is carrying on as if nothing ever happened.

‘It is our right to know the Panel’s findings and why their recommendations were not implemented.’

Continuing, Ibor noted that ‘The Governor is on the ballot of the Northern Senatorial District. If you are from the Northern Senatorial District and you were impacted by the crisis, kindly remind the Governor that you have a PVC. We Will Never Forget’.

Recall that in 22 October 2020 the state governor, Ben Ayade, had inaugurated a judicial panel of inquiry into cases of police brutality with Hon. Justice Edem as head.
