Notorious Armed Robber Responsible for 13 Murders Killed by Police in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has achieved a major breakthrough in its fight against crime with the neutralisation of a notorious armed robber, Wisdom Sunday Akpan, who had been on the Command’s wanted list NEGROIDHAVEN can say.

Akpan, responsible for the brutal murder of thirteen individuals and the shooting of twenty-two others, was a menace to innocent residents of Akwa Ibom, particularly in the areas of Ikot Ambang, Ikot Efun, Ikot Inuan, Itak, Ikot Osukpong, and Okobo Ibiono in Ibiono LGA, as well as parts of Uyo LGA.

The ruthless criminal met his end at the hands of Operatives from the Command’s Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Team while he was out on another dangerous operation. Armed and attempting to evade arrest, Akpan was confronted by the Police Operatives and fatally shot.

Akpan was known to be a part of a notorious armed robbery gang, formerly led by the late Malachi Uwem Friday. His reign of terror included the murder of Nsikan Vincent Udo at Ikot Efun junction on 22nd July, where he stole the victim’s new Q-link motorcycle. On the 8th of July, he targeted a POS Shop at Ikot Ambang junction, shooting and injuring Jesse Johnson and two others. His violent spree continued on the 5th of the same month when he shot and maimed Augustina Dominic at her supermarket.

Operating with impunity, Akpan and his gang terrorised various individuals and establishments, including POS Operators, filling stations, supermarket owners, and market vendors, causing financial losses in the millions.

Upon his neutralisation, the police recovered several incriminating exhibits from the criminal, including a locally reconstructed pump-action shotgun resembling an AK-47, cartridges, a Q-link motorcycle, assorted charms, and a mask.

Commending the efforts of his officers, especially the SWAT and F-Division, Ikot Ambang, Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, warned other criminals in the state to either leave immediately or face the consequences. He expressed gratitude to the law-abiding citizens who provided the police with valuable information, urging more collaboration to keep Akwa Ibom State safer for all.

This successful operation signifies a significant victory in the ongoing battle against crime in Akwa Ibom State, and the police continue to demonstrate their commitment to protecting the lives and property of the citizens.
