Calabar, September 11, 2023 – Professor Cyril Ndifon, a suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, will appear before the university’s Investigative Panel on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. The panel, established by the university’s management, is tasked with investigating various allegations, including official misconduct, sexual harassment, and abuse of office.

Barrister Gabriel Orok, the Secretary of the Investigative Panel, confirmed this development to the media. The hearing is scheduled to take place at the university’s Council Chamber at 9:00 AM.

Professor Ndifon has recently faced allegations of sexual harassment, official misconduct, and abuse of office, all of which contravene the university’s rules and regulations.

The controversy surrounding Professor Ndifon gained attention on August 14th when students from the Faculty of Law, led by their President, Comrade Otu Benedict, protested various wrongdoings and improprieties within the faculty. The protest took place at the administrative block of the university.

In response to the student protest, Professor Florence Banku Obi, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, met with the students, listened to their concerns, and urged them to return to their classes. She assured them that immediate action would be taken.

As part of the university’s immediate actions, Professor Ndifon was suspended from his role as the Dean of the Faculty of Law. Additionally, a committee was established to investigate the serious allegations against the law professor. This committee includes members from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The upcoming appearance of Professor Ndifon before the Investigative Panel is a significant step in the university’s efforts to address the allegations and ensure a fair and thorough investigation.
