Calabar —Friday was a special day for the students of Duke Town Primary School in Calabar as the Efik Leadership Foundation (ELF) introduced its school meals programme, bringing warmth, nourishment, and joy to the children NEGROIDHAVEN can say.
The ELF team arrived at the school, where they were warmly received by Mrs. Ukpanganwan Ekpeyong Imah, the head teacher. Excitement filled the air as the ELF volunteers team, served 80 plates of jollof rice with meat, marking the first time an NGO in Calabar has taken such an initiative to support primary school children.
For many of the pupils, this meal was more than just food; it was a moment of happiness, a reminder that they are seen, valued, and cared for. Their laughter and eager smiles painted a powerful picture of how something as simple as a plate of food can make a real difference.
“This is about more than just filling stomachs,” an ELF representative shared. “It’s about making sure these children can focus in class, learn, and dream without hunger standing in their way.”
The Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) has been informed about the programme, and based on today’s success, plans are already in motion to extend the initiative to other primary schools across Calabar.
This initiative was made possible through a partnership with Queeniez Kitchen, which prepared and supplied the delicious meals. Their support played a key role in ensuring that the children received a nutritious, high-quality meal.
This is just the beginning. With the support of the community, partners, and well-meaning individuals, the Efik Leadership Foundation is determined to keep this momentum going, because no child should have to sit in a classroom on an empty stomach.
