Calabar– Lawmakers representing the state in the 10th National Assembly (NASS) have secured billions of naira in constituency projects in the 2025 budget. The projects, aimed at addressing critical infrastructure, healthcare, education, and empowerment needs, span across the state’s three senatorial districts and eight federal constituencies NEGROIDHAVEN can say.
The details of the projects were revealed by Agba Jalingo, an activist and journalist, who has been tracking and publishing the constituency projects of Cross River lawmakers. Jalingo’s breakdown provides a comprehensive overview of the projects earmarked for each constituency, urging citizens to hold their representatives accountable for the timely execution of these initiatives.
Obanlikwu/Bekwarra/Obudu (OBO) Federal Constituency
Represented by Honorable Peter Akpanke (DeRock), the OBO Federal Constituency has 17 projects totaling N2,447,500,000. Key projects include:
1. Construction of Utugwang Main Market Road – N300,000,000
2. Construction of Okambi-Igwo Ring Road – N500,000,000
3. Rural Electrification with Solar Power Street Lights – N200,000,000
4. Supply of Agricultural Materials to Farmers – N100,000,000
5. Medical Outreach for Widows and Vulnerables – N50,000,000
Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency
Represented by Honorable Godwin Offiono (Goffio), the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency has 15 projects totaling N1,450,000,000. Notable projects include:
1. Construction of 1.2km Feeder Road in Okuku Ward – N300,000,000
2. Construction of Classroom Blocks and Provision of Furniture – N200,000,000 (Yala LGA) and N100,000,000 (Ogoja LGA)
3. Medical Outreach to Health-Challenged Constituents – N100,000,000
4. Training and Scholarship Grants for Tertiary Students – N50,000,000
Cross River North Represented by Senator Jarigbe Agom (Leader of the Unconquered Generation), the district has 39 projects totaling a staggering N12,011,500,000. Key projects include:
1. Supply of Medical Equipment to Primary Health Centers – N500,000,000
2. Rural Electrification of Nkum Irede Community – N300,000,000
3. Construction of Recreation Centers in Ogoja and Ibil Communities – N500,000,000 each
4. Construction of Ukele Road and Aliforkpa Road – N500,000,000 each
5. Training and Empowerment of Women with Sewing Machines and Grants – N350,000,000
Jalingo emphasized the importance of citizens monitoring the execution of these projects to ensure transparency and accountability.
“These projects are meant to improve the lives of our people,” Jalingo said. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that they are executed as planned. We must hold our lawmakers accountable and demand value for the resources allocated to our communities.”
Jalingo has promised to continue publishing the constituency projects for other federal constituencies and senatorial districts in Cross River state. The next report will focus on the Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, represented by Honorable Victor Abang (aka Mature), and the Central Senatorial District to ensure they deliver the projects as captured in the Appropriation Act 2025.
