Calabar — The Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Cross River State Planning Commission, Dr. Bong Duke, has emphasized that peace remains the foundation for sustainable development in the state NEGROIDHAVEN can say.

Speaking in a press statement to mark the 2025 International Day of Peace on Sunday, Duke said peace must go beyond the absence of conflict to include justice, equity, and opportunities for all. He noted that the state’s history, diversity, and future aspirations can only thrive in an environment of harmony.

“Every plan, every budget, and every development framework must integrate conflict sensitivity, justice, and social cohesion,” Duke stated. “It is only in an atmosphere of peace that our children can learn without fear, our farmers can cultivate without threat, our businesses can flourish, and our people can live with dignity.”

The Planning Commission boss described peace as central to the Commission’s work, insisting that development is impossible without stability. He added that political differences, communal tensions, and socio-economic challenges could only be resolved through dialogue and inclusive planning.

He further called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, women, faith actors, civil society, and government institutions to renew their commitment to tolerance and reconciliation.

Duke also aligned his message with the vision of the Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu, which he said places people at the center of governance.

“As we join the world to observe this International Day of Peace, may we remember that peace begins with each of us. When we choose cooperation over confrontation, empathy over enmity, and service over selfishness, we build the Cross River of our dreams,” he added.

The International Day of Peace, observed annually on September 21, is set aside by the United Nations to strengthen the ideals of peace through awareness, education, and partnerships at all levels.
