CALABAR – The Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged members of the public to verify the identities of its duly nominated candidates for the 2027 general elections through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, warning against recognising individuals whose names are not officially listed.
The party made the appeal in a public disclaimer issued on Wednesday by its State Secretary, Hon. Obi Joe Ability Bisong, following what it described as the circulation of false and misleading information by a group allegedly parading itself as the “Turaki faction” of the PDP concerning the party’s candidates.
According to the party, the names of all duly nominated PDP candidates have been uploaded to the INEC portal in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and other applicable regulations.
It stated that the portal remains open for public verification, urging party members, supporters and the general public to rely solely on the electoral commission’s official records when confirming the status of PDP candidates.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the names of the duly nominated PDP candidates have been uploaded to the INEC portal in accordance with the Electoral Act and other applicable regulations. The portal is open to the public for verification,” the statement read.
The party warned that any person claiming to be a PDP candidate whose name does not appear on the official INEC portal should be regarded as an impostor.
It added that such individuals would be reported to the appropriate security agencies for investigation and any further action permitted by law.
The PDP further cautioned that anyone presenting himself or herself as a candidate or representative of the party without proper authorisation does not represent the party in any capacity.
The party also advised members of the public to obtain official information concerning its activities only from its state secretariat located at No. 27 Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar, during official working hours.
Reaffirming its commitment to lawful political engagement, the PDP described itself as a responsible and law-abiding political party and urged the public to disregard unauthorised statements, announcements and claims made by individuals falsely presenting themselves as its representatives or candidates.
The statement emphasised that verifying information through official channels was essential to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and preventing misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
