CALABAR — The Coalition of Cross River State Youths has commenced its tour of the Northern Senatorial District, with the group visiting Obanliku and Obudu Local Government Areas on Wednesday.
The tour is aimed at inaugurating COCRISY chapter and ward executives and mobilising youths to participate actively and peacefully in the political process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The organisation had planned to begin the tour on Tuesday but postponed it due to logistical challenges.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Director of Contact and Mobilisation, Uket Abanda, said the team would visit Obanliku and Obudu on Wednesday before proceeding to other areas on Thursday.
“Obanliku and Obudu today, while the others for tomorrow. We couldn’t do any yesterday due to automobile issues,” Abanda said.
The Director-General of COCRISY, Hon Etem Okimba, also confirmed the revised schedule.
The coalition is expected to use the tour to sensitise youths on the need to participate in the political process, maintain peace and take advantage of legitimate opportunities available to them.
The group will also encourage eligible youths to participate in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s recruitment of ad-hoc personnel for the 2027 elections.
INEC is currently recruiting Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers and Registration Area Centre Managers for the elections, with applications scheduled to close on November 18, 2026.
COCRISY is also expected to sensitise youths on employment opportunities and encourage them to rely on official government platforms for information on recruitment exercises.
The North tour forms part of COCRISY’s planned engagement with youths across the state’s 18 local government areas.
The organisation recently held discussions with the Independent National Electoral Commission in Cross River on youth participation, peaceful elections and collaboration ahead of the 2027 polls.
The 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, while the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will hold on February 6.
