The Vice Chancellor of CRUTECH Professor Augustine Oko Angba has stated the University Management’s preparedness to make cultism very unattractive. He made this known when he appeared on the flagship programme of Fad 93.1FM on Tuesday 26th January 2021.

He bemoaned a situation where young people kill and maim themselves in the name of cultism. He said those perpetrating this nefarious acts are a very small minority as far as the population of students in the University is concerned.   In his words “we are going to make violence and cultism very unattractive by rewarding virtues.  We are going to play down on hyping violence while ensuring that disciplinary measures take their proper place”.

He also relayed the University’s Management’s readiness to engage students consistently in a bid to dissuade them from getting involved in cultism. He averred that students gain nothing by involving themselves in the aforesaid and as such the University would be very forthright in its efforts to reorient students on the dangers of cultism.

In the same vein, the Vice Chancellor also expressed his disappointment in the way and manner too much attention is given to negative stories of violent cult clashes in the University by the Main Stream and Online Media. The Vice Chancellor decried a situation where you hardly find stories from mainstream and online media promoting the achievements of the University especially in the area of Human Resource Development. In his words “those of you in the public sphere don’t need to be rewarding violence by stoking it. When people kill, you make so much noise about it and then when CRUTECH graduates win awards, nobody talks about it .That is not quite rewarding enough”.

On the whole, he expressed the University’s commitment to dealing decisively with issues of insecurity.
