Calabar –The member representing Calabar Municipality and Odukpani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Bassey Akiba, has congratulated the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, on his investiture as the National Patron of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
Akiba conveyed the message in a statement issued Wednesday, describing the honour as a fitting recognition of the governor’s commitment to excellence in governance, strategic communication and people-oriented leadership.
According to the federal lawmaker, Otu’s elevation to the position reflects his efforts in strengthening public trust and promoting inclusive governance through effective engagement with citizens.
He commended the governor’s consistent drive toward building stronger relationships between government and the people, noting that such efforts have helped to foster transparency and confidence in public institutions.
Akiba further stated that the new role would amplify Otu’s contributions toward advancing professionalism, ethical standards and best practices in public relations across Nigeria.
“The honour is a recognition of Governor Otu’s dedication to excellence in governance and his commitment to strategic communication that connects government with the people,” the lawmaker said.
He added that the recognition would also inspire continued collaboration between government institutions and professional bodies in strengthening communication and public accountability.
While acknowledging the governor’s strides since assuming office, Akiba prayed for continued grace, strength and wisdom for Otu as he continues to steer the affairs of Cross River State.
The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, was recently formally decorated as a Patron of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) by its President and Chairman of Council, Ike Neliaku, FNIPR.
The decoration ceremony took place at the Government House, Calabar, in line with the provisions of the NIPR Act, which recognizes all 36 State Governors as Patrons of the Institute. The Act further stipulates that only the National President of the Institute can perform such decoration upon recommendation by the relevant state chapter.
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations is Nigeria’s statutory professional body responsible for regulating the practice of public relations and promoting ethical standards in communication practice nationwide.
