It was a moment of joy and excitement for young girls of Ward 2 in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, as Mrs. Cecilia Masor officially flagged off a two-month Skills-to-Wealth Training Programme aimed at equipping young girls with practical vocational skills for self-reliance and economic empowerment.

The programme, organised by Maxcelia Golden Hands Initiatives (MCGHI), is designed around the philosophy, “From Learning Hands to Earning Hands,” with beneficiaries expected to acquire practical skills that can provide them with opportunities for personal development and income generation.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Mrs Masor said the initiative was born out of her passion for empowering young girls and giving them practical skills that could help them become self-reliant.

She said: “I am particularly happy to see this programme begin because it represents hope and opportunity for these young girls. We are not just teaching them skills; we are giving them something they can use to build a future for themselves.”

According to her, the initiative was conceived with the understanding that vocational skills can provide young people with an alternative pathway to economic independence when properly nurtured and supported.

“My desire is to see these girls learn, practise and eventually turn their skills into sources of income. Whether it is hairdressing, catering, beadwork, or makeup, these are skills that can become businesses in their own right,” she said.

Mrs Masor encouraged the beneficiaries to take the training seriously, describing the opportunity as a foundation upon which they could build their future.

She further explained that the inclusion of business and WhatsApp sales classes was intended to help the girls understand that acquiring a skill was only the first step, while knowing how to manage, market and grow a small business was equally important.

She also expressed appreciation to her husband, Masor Elvis for standing by him and everyone contributing to the success of the initiative, stressing that empowering young girls was a collective responsibility.

The two-month programme is expected to give the beneficiaries hands-on exposure in their chosen areas while equipping them with the foundational knowledge required to begin their journey from learning skills to earning income.

The training covers four major vocational areas: Hair Dressing and Braiding, Catering and Baking, Beadwork, and Professional Makeup and Gele Tying.

The programme will also provide participants with Business Classes, WhatsApp Sales Classes and Starter Kit Support, giving the beneficiaries additional knowledge and support to help them transform their acquired skills into viable businesses.
