It is worth stating that the Boki local government chairman is neither a student nor an umpire in students affairs or elections. I write to bring to our notice the conspiracy carried out by Hon Abubakar Ewa, the Executive Chairman of Boki Local Government Area and his Personal Assistant (PA) on Student Affairs, Peter Oned, intended to cause crisis within the Boki students, thereby imposing an unpopular candidate against the duly elected president in the person of Comrade John Obi Bisong.

The National Association of Boki Students Worldwide under the leadership of Comrade Ebu Martin Enu dissolved its EXCO on the 27th of June and constituted an electoral body with membership cutting across the six traditional clans of Boki and Comrade Bikom Carison Evans was duly elected as the Electoral Committee(ELECO) Chairman. The ELECO was given a mandate to conduct an election within 21 days. In furtherance of its mandate, elections were contested by Comrade Agbor John Onabe and John Obi Bisong. The Boki local government chairman approved the 1st of August for the election in his Wula, his village and Comrade John Obi Bisong emerged the winner.

The candidate supported by the Executive Chairman of Boki local government, Agbor John Onabe, lost the election despite the attempt of Boki local government chairman to influence the election through his PA on student affairs. It is gossip that the Boki local government chairman spent the sum of one million, five hundred thousand naira(N1,500,000) to 'deliver' his candidate that eventually failed.

After a successful conduct of the election, the ELECO was prevented from announcing the winner of the said election in CRBC, Ikom and were forced to Ebony State Broadcasting Corporation to announce its result. To validate the election, the result of the election was also published online by Cross River Watch. The ELECO duly inaugurated its elected officers in CRUTECH Calabar campus in the presence of more than 75% members of the student body. Comrade John Obi Bisong's led EXCO resumed their function since the 16th day of August 2015.

It is sad to inform the public that the Boki local government chairman is still relentless in his call for the cancelation of the election. Stakeholders of the body in the persons of Comrade Joseph Osibu, Ebu Martin Enu and Jimmy Agbor have resisted all attempts by the Executive Chairman of Boki local government, Hon Abubakar Ewa to cancel the election with a clear message that the chairman must not be seen interfering in the affairs of the students. To make serious their position, a petition to the Commissioner of Police against the Chairman has been written by these stakeholders of Boki students worldwide.

I use this medium to call on the Personal Assistant to the Governor (Student Affairs) Prince Micheal Nku Abuo to intervene to prevent the rape of democracy by the Boki local government chairman. Attempt to subvert the cause of justice may be disastrous.

In the same vein, I also call on well meaning CrossRiverians and the sons and daughters of Boki Local Government Area to intervene and  call on the erring local government chairman to order.

Long live democracy!
Long live Cross River State!
Long live Boki Students Union Worldwide!
