Stoke became only the third team ever to knock him out, following Charlton in 2005 and Sunderland 21 months ago in the Capital One Cup.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has now become a serial loser. Although Chelsea played their best football in the first 45mins, which saw Ramirez missed an open goal from a wonder work from Baba Rhaman who Jose Mourinho has little faith in and it was demonstrated when he was substituted when Chelsea went a goal down. It was Jon Walter who gave Stoke City the lead. It was levelled by substitute Loic Remy injury time after Walter has already been announced as the match winner when he was substituted.

It eventually went into penalties as Chelsea lost 5-4 on penalties. It was Eden Hazard who got his penalty saved by Butland as his woes continues to linger. The Belgian international has put in a superb performance oy to be deterred by his penalty miss.

The weekend game against Liverpool could really be one with the 'litmus test' to truly determine if Jose Mourinho still has Chelsea backing to turn the season around.
