As a people, Cross Riverians may be plagued by collective amnesia and corporate myopia, but there are still few people in the land who have not forgotten the rather dubious circumstances surrounding the assumption of power by the present administration.

There are still few Cross Riverians who remember that the main actors in the present administration were also the principal collaborators and accomplices in the Sen. Liyel Imoke' government. His nightmarish transition programme and his mischievous selectocracy which resulted in a midnight of agony and pain from which the land is yet to be truly liberated.

Some of us still remember the promises of this administration cemented on the very fabric of lies which ushered it in. True, the dubious circumstances around the emergence of this administration, its record in the art of duplicity, falsehood and its callous treatment of opposition voices make it difficult for the leaders to attain the minimum moral latitude required to pilot the state towards greater justice, peace, and stability.

Even if this era turns out to be the golden era in Cross Riverian history, when (as many apologist of administration want us to believe) there is unity and peace, justice and fair play, security in the land, fiscal discipline and overall development, the administration will not attain a high ground as a result for except in crass opportunism or thoughtless utilitarianism, 'the end does not justify the means'.

Cross River is seeking a vibrant and dynamic development profile brimming in God's abundant talent in men and materials. Our state is in a hurry to catch up with the fast changing world. We do not have further patience with political opportunism, manipulative tactics of succession that we find displayed by the accomplished despots who holds the citizens of several "third world countries and other states in Nigeria" in perpetual servitude.

Yes! Cross River deserves a better deal.
