Lagos —A Corps member of NAPTIP/SERVICOM & Gender Equality Community Development Service (CDS) group by name Ekemini James, in Agege Local Government – Lagos State,
today charged his fellow corps members from other CDS group during general CDS meeting to join the fight against domestic violence nationwide.

Speaking during general CDS on the topic "A Public Call for Eradication of Domestic Violence Nationwide" James affirmed that two women are killed every week by a partner or ex partner as a result of domestic violence and that there is no community that is free from Domestic Violence.

Starting, however, James said "the aim of this presentation is to raise Anti Domestic Violence agent who will fight this killer social malaise at their respective homes and communities". According to him, "the idea of eradicating domestic violence is not an individual thing but a collective responsibility of each and everyone of us".

He notified the audience that agencies designed to protect women have failed especially in Nigeria. You report a case of domestic violence to the Police and the next response is "madam, that's a family matter…go and settle it amicably".

It could be recalled that NAPTIP/SERVICOM & Gender Equality Group in the same local government last week embarked on indefinite war against domestic violence sensitization rally in Lagos state tagged "no do am again".

The president of the group Corper Odunlade Dollar Adeyoju says the rally was held to enlighten the public on the effects of Domestic Violence to the country.

Speaking exclusively during the rally, the group Financial Secretary/Treasurer, Corper Ekemini James, said they were moved to sensitize the public due to the recent report from Lagos State Government that Lagos have handled a total of 4,035 cases ranging from rape, child abuse, sexual assault, sexual abuse, defilement, divorce, matrimonial issues and child custody within six months.

According to Corper Joy, this is the first rally we are doing as a CDS group and the reason we did is because we the youth represents the government, we are serving corps members and we also represent the NAPTIP/SERVICOM AND GENDER EQUALITY CDS group.

She added that "we took it as a responsibility to let the world know that domestic violence is a criminal offence and those involve must be reported to law enforcement agencies for drastic action" .

The Vice President, Corper Moyin, said" we will handover this to the upcoming members and they will in turn handover to those coming after them but our main objective is impacting positively on the lives of society especially younger folks through sensitization and enlightenment".

The Local Government Inspector, Mrs. Adeola Abdul, who was represented by the CLO Corper Owolabi Omolara, said that the corps members were inspired by the new level of violence against woman in the country and the dimension it has taken, saying it is pertinent that individual's to and Government support Corps members financially to enable them fight Domestic Violence.
