This week the video, picture and story of an upcoming Nollywood actor, Ani Iyoho, who was incidentally burnt while on set went viral on the net. The unfortunate occurrence took place as a result of a failed special effects for a fire scene role of Director Stanley Ohikhuare.
The near death fire incident transpired because the fire extinguisher was bad and didn't work. Presently, Actor Iyoho has been hospitalised as his friends and colleagues are sourcing for funds for his medical treatment. Director Ohikhuare, and the movie producers, Kelechi Udegbe and Ugochukwu Azikiwe are on the presently on the run.
Meanwhile, the Chair of Actors Guild of Nigeria in Cross River State (AGN-CRS), Miss Aniebiet Udofia, has expressed her deep displeasure via her social media account over the fire outbreak incident. Miss Udofia who said she was ashamed of Nollywood while describing the Director as 'wind headed', blamed the occurrence on the film maker of the set. She inquired how such a scene could be performed without a proper routine check on the equipments to be used. In her words, 'For once I'm ashamed of Nollywood… How Could a any man direct a stunt action Scene without proper check on the materials needed for that set… How could some Film makers in Nollywood be so wind headed???'
'These days a director can call for 200 scenes in one week just to shoot one shabby Movie with zero Continuity or burn someone alive',she continued.
She asked the federal government to wade into the movie sector in the country by building movie schools and enacting a law requiring only certified film makers to practice. She assured that such intervention would help AGN and movie lovers.
'Federal Government must look into the movie sector, build movie schools and enforce a law for only Certified Film makers to practice. No body can play a waka pass role in Hollywood without Certificates…It will help us…Imagine someone dying of fireburnt because of one hell Cursed director.. I'm so ashamed of Nigeria in all sides',Miss Udofia intoned.
