This post appeared on Venatius Ikem's Facebook wall yesterday as a contribution to the ongoing legal tussle between Ben Ayade, the Executive Governor of Cross River State and Joe Agi, SAN an appellant challenging the eligibility of Governor Ayade to stand for election in the 2015 gubernatorial elections under the PDP. I thought it wise to reproduce it for our teeming fans:

'I know this is not news anymore because the Ayade people have been celebrating this feat since yesterday! I am just curious. As a lawyer. I am unaware of a procedure that allows a party to a case after close of argument to adduce further evidence one way or the other! No less at the Supreme Court!

'It is interesting that these letters are obtained at exorbitant fees. The learned Senior Advocate I understand got a whopping N750 million Naira to share to get these ordinary letters! Just two of them. One from Sheriff and one from Makarfi! Now who says it's not profitable to be a chairman of PDP during crisis?  Especially when you set a trap for a recalcitrant son and he falls inside so badly! But think about it, "there is no cause for alarm",  yet these monies are being shared so lavishly? What if there was actually "cause for alarm?". Now, what can the Supreme Court do in the circumstances? What if the Court does not accept these PDP "amendment" of Court procedures? Remember this is not the PDP constitution we are talking about? I love this date, December, 9th. It's so pregnant it will deliver twins! Even more than twins', Ikem continued.

'The PDP sure loves to feed from the carcass! You see? When the party was on the Gov didn't play ball. Now they are playing hard ball with him. I hope the lessons are learnt. I hope they share with Imoke for a good scheme!

'On the December delivery date, there may be a fresh Governor Ayade. Another may also be fresh elections without Ben Ayade. Some even pray for triplets like a brand new Gov. Joe Agi! Or quadruplets in fresh elections between Joe Agi and Ochicha and well… maybe Ugbo as the Labour Party candidate, by INEC records. Whatever it is that date will give birth to, it's promising to be interesting while we wait!', Ikem concluded.

Truly, there are emerging and involving dimensions to the ongoing battle for the soul of Cross River State between Ayade and Agi. But, what does 9th December 2016 holds against/for the duo of Ayade and Agi? Where would judgment swing to? Only the future is certain.
