The Honourable Member representing Ogoja State Constituency at the 8th Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr Peter Odey, has donated a motorcycle to one Austin Offum, the ‘best yam farmer’ in Mbube as well two others including Mr Emmanuel Ekponobi in the just concluded Mbube New Yam Festival NegroidHaven can authoritatively inform.
The distinguished lawmaker who presented a brand new motorcycle to the best yam farmer as reward for hard work urged the good people of Mbube to take farming serious as a sure means of survival, he encouraged them to cultivate edible crops not just for their consumption but also for commercial purposes, he promised to continue to reward the best yam farmer as his own little way to spur competition and encourage hard work. Similarly, Hon Odey presented motorcycles to two other youths as reward for hard work.
While presenting the gift to Mr Offum, Hon Odey tasked the youths of Ogoja to prioritise agriculture. He informed them how oil is exhaustible unlike agriculture. His words, ‘There’s a time when agriculture was the mainstay of Nigeria’ s economy, not crude oil. Over the years, since independence, the trend has changed course regrettably. Let’s return back to farming especially large scale farming. I am giving this gift as a way of demonstrating my commitment to this espoused ideal’.
Speaking on behalf of Hon Odey who left immediately after donating the first gift was Comr Jimmy Agbe the Personal Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilization Ogoja, he pleaded with the youths to pardon Hon Odey who was unavoidably absent at the time, urging the youths to continue to support and pray for Hon Odey. Comr Abang Ogon a constituent and firm ally of Hon Odey encouraged the youths to imbibe the virtue of patience and continue to believe in Hon Odey. He assured them of Hon Odey’s commitment to reach out to all and sundry, he pleaded with the youths to engage their energies positively in order to produce positive results.
In Agbe’s words, ‘Let’s give Hon Odey the needed support. He is people-oriented. I will charge every youth here present to take agriculture seriously. Not just subsistent agriculture but the type that will contribute to the export potential of the state and country at large. With this type of farming, our personal economic fortune will be improved upon. It’s regrettable that our representative isn’t here as at now, he is in the spirit of the celebration as he just left to attend to something urgent’.
Ogon’s words: ‘Let’s be consistent in our believe in Hon Peter Odey. Let’s shun social vices and channel our energy for positive purposes’.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mr Austin Offum thanked Hon Odey for his show of love and pray the Almighty God to replenish his source, keep him in good health and bring him more fortune.
Every Last Saturday of August is unique to the people of Mbube in Ogoja LGA, it heralds the commencement of a bountiful harvest as reward for hard work, a trait synonymous with the good people of Mbube. Yesterday was not an exception as the people of Mbube gathered at Egbe Mbube to mark the years festival.
