The wife of the Cross River State Governor, Dr Linda Ayade, through her pet project, the Mediatrix Development Foundation (MDF), will join the Fistula Foundation Nigeria (FFN) as they collaborate with UNFPA and the Cross River State Ministry of Health, to carry out a one week free Vasico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) Surgery from Wednesday the 15th of November, 2017, at the General Hospital Calabar.
This was made public by Dr Inyang Asibong, the Honorable Commissioner for Health, following the conclusion of plans to organize the same event at the Ogoja General Hospital simultaneously with Engender Health.
The general public are by this notice encouraged to avail themselves of this opportunity as the transportation to and fro the center has been catered to. The registration and screening for the exercise begins on Sunday, 1st and closes on Tuesday 14th of November, 2017 at the VVF center of the General Hospital, Calabar.
VVF: C'River Set to Commence Another Round of Free Surgeries.
All is now set for the next round of the Obstetric Fistula pool effort repairs at the Fistula Center of the Ogoja General Hospital in the Northern Senatorial District of the State from the 6th to the 10th of November, 2017.
This was disclosed by the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong, who advised the public to take advantage of this opportunity by bringing their relatives, family and friends who have fistula-related complications for testing and admission as the treatment is free.
This is following the promise of the wife of the Governor, Her Excellency Dr Linda Ayade, a month ago to cater to the welfare of Vasico Vaginal Fistula patients in the State as they under go free repairs and reintegration in the State.
It would recalled that Her Excellency, Dr Linda Ayade, during a courtesy by the Honorable Commissioner for Health in company of the Chief of Party of Engender Health, Chief Iyeme Efem, and his team to the office of Her Excellency assured that through her pet project, Mediatrix Development Foundation will support in the welfare of the women as they form part of the workforce of the State whilst also hinting that more support will be garnered through her office for the purpose of giving these women a healthy life.
During the visit Chief Efem gave a run down of the activities of the Center where he disclosed that over four hundred repairs and reintegration has been carried out since the commencement of the activity.
AYADE CARE: SOML and Referral hospital advocacy in Calabar South
Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong on 18th of October, 2017 lead Cross River State Health team to a one day advocacy and sensitization campaign for Cross River State Saving One Million Lives programmes for Result (SOML-PforR) and building of a referral hospital in Calabar South LGA Council Headquarters.
Speaking, Dr Asibong said SOML Program for Results (PforR) is a program of the Federal Government of Nigeria for maternal and child health supported by the World Bank that provides incentives based on achievement of results (health outcomes) and helps to drive institutional processes needed to achieve these results.
She said so many children and mothers die every year in Nigeria, largely from preventable causes and over the last decade the trend in health, nutrition, and population outcomes have not been satisfactory. The federal and state government are working together to ensure better services. Federal are paying for some services while the CRS government is building 18 referral hospitals and paying for even more services for its people.
Finally she said with AYADECARE the program is on track for the people to access quality healthcare delivery for just a token of N1,000 as Referral Hospital will be built across the 18 LGAs. "Am from calabar south, me and your son Hon Commissioner, Oliver Orok appealed to the Governor and he accepted to Give us a big referral Hospital as part of the first phase".
" As we all know there have been a lot of revitalization ongoing at Primary Healthcare Centres across the State. According to her it will continue until we are convinced that we have the needed facilities to provide quality and accessible healthcare to the people.
Also Speaking, Commissioner for Sustainable Development, Mr Oliver Orok urged the traditional rulers and good people of Calabar South Local Government Area to cooperate with the Cross River State Health Sector to drive these needed interventions while also using the opportunity to advocate for a land for the building of AYADECARE Referral Hospital.
Earlier Speaking, Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu added that SOML Initiative was launched in Nigeria as response to the poor health outcomes particularly for mothers and children as it represents a bold attempt to improve maternal and child healthcare.
She said the program focuses on six important aspects of maternal newborn and child health (MNCH) that can save lives through (1) Improving Maternal, Newborn and Child Health by improving skilled birth attendance; (2) Improving routine immunisation with emphasis on penta 3; (3) Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV; (4) Scaling up access to essential medicines and commodities; (5) Malaria control using LLNTN (6) Improving child nutrition.
" Without the support of the people, traditional rulers and every stakeholders in the health sector, the program will not be successful as this informed the need for the team to visit the LGA and interact with the chiefs and people on the benefit of save one million lives program for result and AYADECARE. As we all know the Primary healthcare centres across the State have been undergoing robust revitalization with emphasis on quality healthcare service to be render to the people.
She said this will perfectly work with the effort of our Royal fathers who are to play a role in making sure their subordinates make use of the facilities for healthcare issues as this will not only stop maternal mortality but save thousands of children and women lives across the State.
The Permanent Secretary of Cross River State Ministry of Health, Dr Joseph Bassey had informed the Royal fathers that every intervention carried out by this fund is taken note of by the Federal Government and as such Cross River cannot afford to lose the next trench of the support and SOML PforR rewards for state governments which is based on performance in increasing utilization of maternal and child health interventions; the major reason we gathered today.
Also in the meeting were the SOML State Desk Officer, Mrs Lucy Enakireri, the Royal Fathers of Calabar South, Representative of the Paramount Ruler and Muri Munene of the Efut Kingdom and every key stakeholders in Calabar South LGA who thanked the Governor for prioritising Calabar south.
