Opinion: Somebody is laughing and he is Wing Commander Stanley Gorereza, he was happily married to his wife Grace Marifu and both had a son Russel before freedom fighter Mugabe showed up. This was what you'd call your ideal marriage, a young couple starting off together in life. Everything was fine until Grace was posted as a typist to Mugabe's office, that was when things began to go awry.
Not too long after her posting she suddenly became Mugabe's confidential secretary. The trusting unsuspecting husband had no idea that Zimbabwe's most powerful man had his praying mantis eyes on his wife. Perhaps he should have questioned his immediate military transfer to study in China, a country almost 24hrs away from Zimbabwe by air.
What is a little strange about this story is that, they were still married when Grace gave birth to Mugabe's children in 1984 and 1988 respectively. Even after the birth of the children it took another 13 years before the couple obtained a divorce. It's difficult to tell if this was a case of a loving husband, so hurt and so shocked he couldn't let go. Whatever the reason, the couple finally obtained a divorce in 1995, and soon after in 1996, Robert Mugabe and Grace had this wedding many in Zimbabwe have dubbed the wedding of the century.
But that's not the story, this is the story.
Wing Commander Stanley Gorereza appeared to have resigned himself to his great loss. He tried to restart his life by marrying a lady called Tamara, it didn't work. And in what might have been a burst of frustration, in October 2016 he went on his Facebook wall, after 23 years and made some pronouncements on President Robert Mugabe's life. Do you believe in these things, then you have to read what he said.
We often say hell has no fury like a woman scorned, I say, "hades has no rage like a husband plundered!"
