Efio-Ita Nyok|23 January 2018

Controversial change agent, Mr Joseph Odok, Friday, was suspended from duty with the University of Calabar (UNICAL) NegroidHaven can report authoritatively. This was contained in a letter signed by the registrar of the said tertiary academic institution, Mr Moses Abang and dated 19th January 2018.
According to the letter, Odok’s suspension is coming on the heels of his activities on social media that are directly against the person and office of Prof Zana Akpagu, the Vice Chancellor of UNICAL. The opening part of the letter reads partly thus : ‘The attention of Vice-Chancellor has been drawn to a plethora of your posts on social media in which you made wild allegations against his person and the office of the Vice-Chancellor’.
According to the letter, Odok’s ‘disheartening, unthinkable and unbelievable’ social media posts touch on ‘wild, unsubstantiated and sweeping allegations’ touching on eight features particularly the sack of Mr Peter Agi the former bursar, the suspension of SANU chair, the contention against Associate Professor Babi Mensa, Akpagu’s greed, faculty of law accreditation, bribery of JAMB, corruption, etc.

Accordingly, ‘The Vice-Chancellor considers these allegations weighty enough and your actions inimical to the overall well-being of the University, and has in exercise of his powers as stipulated in the extant laws establishing the University that you be suspended from duty and you are hereby suspended’, the letter continues.
With this development, Odok is temporarily unable to lecture in the University.
