Nigerian youths of Cross River extraction under the aegis of Southern Cross River State Students Worldwide (SOCRISS WW) are seeking the return of their grand-patron, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during the forthcoming 2019 general election in the country NegroidHaven has garnered.
The forum which is am amalgam of students union representatives from the seven local government areas constituting Cross River Southern Senatorial District sent the call-to-duty to the former distinguished lawmaker in a five point communique it arrived at, at the end of its new year meeting convened in Akamkpa recently.
The communiqué endorsed by Comr. Prince Adjah E. Adjah former President of National Association Of Cross River State Students Worldwide (NACRISS WW), Mr Tete Ekpo Okon former Students Union Government (SUG) President, University of Calabar (UNICAL) and Mr Ntui Hillary Ntui the incumbent SOCRISS WW President on behalf of other stakeholders has it that the wish of the students is for Otu popularly called 'Sweet Prince' to rescue the district from misrepresentation and absence of a potent voice based on his previous stint yet-to-be sustained nor emulated. 'We hereby send a Save-Our-Soul passionate appeal/clarion call to Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu to shirk off his present silence which may be misconstrued to mean premature retirement from politics and get ready to enjoy out support during the 2019 elections for the Senate seat of Cross River South', the communiqué stated in part.
'We have so far witnessed a tenure in which the affairs of the senatorial district have not been boosted with the relevant legislative muscle, and the numerous human capital which you had groomed during your tenure are now without a positive future due to glaring misrepresentation', the communique continued. The communiqué also lamented that several national issues affecting the district which have not been projected to attract federal government attention; the reverse being the case, would have had positive effect on the live of the people who incidentally are now suffering in the midst of plenty : 'there are several of such issues within our district such as the unilateral ceding of the Bakassi peninsula without ratification by the National Assembly, lost of 76 oil wells, moribund Tinapa Resort, fraudulent dredging of the Calabar Port channel, proposed privatisation Cross River National Park, failure to demarcate our boundaries (interstate particularly), dwindling education infrastructure, unemployment and lack of empowerment, etc by which the people are neither convinced that their views/voices have been adequately conveyed nor articulated to facilitate justice, fairness and equity'.
They contended that the wish of the Senator shall be their command, to mobilise into the planes of Biase and creeks of Bakassi to ensure that retrogressive forces are chased away for a brighter future.
They added that, in line with the political equation in Cross River, since the inception of democracy in 2019 until date 'we support the northern senatorial district to complete an eight year period of governing the state so as to return power to the south in 2023'.
