Constituents from the Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency, Monday, urged the incumbent member of the 8th Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA) representing Calabar South II State Constituency at the 8th CRSHA, Hon Joseph Bassey, to consider representing them at the green chamber of the Federal House of Representatives (HoR) NegroidHaven can report authoritatively.
The constituents from the said federal Constituency visited Bassey at the Cross River State House of Assembly Complex to register their inclination. For these constituents, the glaring effectiveness of Hon Bassey, who doubles as the Deputy Speaker of the 8th Assembly is necessitating their disposition. They said they were tired of a 'sleeping representative'. The designated few from the three local government areas that constitutes the Constituency at the venue, who spoke in turn, earnestly urged Bassey to vie for Office of the Honourable Member representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency.
Their words, Emmanuel Asuquo —
'Today the 19th of February 2018 is a great day. We are here because the youth of Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Calabar South have sat down and brain stormed, telling Hon. Joseph to come and rescue us. We need him to come and represent us, why this is done is because he has represented is in the House of Assembly effectively, we have seen that he is a man that he is cable, he is strong enough, a man that will not disappoint us, a man that has stood firmly with his people till date. That is why today we are asking him to come and represent is in the Federal Assembly. Mr.  Joseph Bassey we hope you will not disappoint us, you will not tell us you are not going to run.
'If you are being given first term, second term, third term, I think that's enough, but we went ahead and gave him fourth term we can not afford a fifth term.'
A female legal practitioner by name Ekanem Ndiyo said : On behalf of the Women —whether you like it or not, as women, mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters, please salvage us from this situation. Come and be our voice. We want a man with charisma, to salvage our situation. New Face! (Obufa Iso).
'You must go! You must go!'
For Hon Antigha Ambo, former Councillor from Calabar South —we call out brother, Hon. Bassey to come and rescue us from Mugabe. He's represented us from the state House of Assembly. He's a man that has represented us, a man that'll give us home. On behalf of the youths of Calabar South, we know you'd represent us very well. When we have this pair, it will be well with us. We will assist you from Calabar South to Bakassi. Mr. Joseph Bassey, please don't say you won't represent us. We'll contribute and buy you a ticket. We cannot afford to give Esien Ayi a fifth term. Are we accepting him? Should he go? Yes!'
An anonymous speaker from Akpabuyo spoke thus : 'Now that we have gotten somebody that will now represent us effectively, Akpabuyo gives you 100% support but please don't fail us.
Bakassi speaker opined thus :' 2019 is for the youth.  I thank the national chairman of the PDP because he said grass root politics is for the youth'.
Youth Council boss, Calabar South said, 'We have come to support our own to say that we are tired of sleeping representatives. Advocacy and representation is not all about dashing people Keke Napep. There's more to it. We need a man with a brain. I am not saying that the man that's there does not have a brain. But we need a man with the charisma to take us there. And we have looked around that is why we decided to gather today to beg you sir please whether you like it or not the youth are ready to carry you on their shoulder'.
'Today we have come to tell you that whether you like it or not you must go. We have gathered ourselves as women,  as mothers as wives, as friends, as sisters to come and tell you to please salvage us from this situation. We want a man that understands our plight,  a man with charisma, a man that is accessible'.
While Bassey responded, he said that he will see them at Abuja, Nigeria's federal capital territory charging them to be moderate and not engage in any vice while supporting him. He added that nothing in life is permanent. His words, 'The office we are talking about is being occupied by one of our brothers and nothing in life is permanent. There's always a beginning and an end.
'What I have to tell you people is that I was a counselor and the leader of the House and I did not leave, if I have been there for five times, most of these boys that are starting up today wouldn't have had the opportunity to start up.
'It's not bad to continuously be in office but definitely when you are there and the voice of the people being the voice of God says they don't want you or they want you, you must act accordingly.
'I am not here to fight and I want to encourage everybody not to fight verbally, engage in hate speech or physically, don't fight. Power belong to God it is only God that gives power. No amount of effort will give you position. I wouldn't want to serve a people that don't want me.
'With God and with all of us here today, I am assuring you that 2019 is a done deal, let me first of all congratulate you in advance, see you guys in Abuja', he concluded.
Rt. Hon. Apostle Essien Ekpenyong Ayi is the current representative of Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency at the HoR.

It's quite interesting that just longevity is the reason why these constituents want the incumbent representative out. Hmmm! Is the voice of God, that of the people.
