The cross river state government has lauded the National Universities Commission NUC, for approving five programs of the state college of education COE Akamkpa to commence degree programmes.
Speaking when the chairman governing council and Provost of the college visited him in Government House Calabar, the deputy governor Professor Ivara Ejemot Esu noted that the measure is in line with the vision of government in that regard.
He said the Ayade led administration is sensitive to the activities and challenges of the institution which will be looked into.
Professor Esu lauded the governing council for being able to achieve so much for the college especially in successfully financing the accreditation processes for the various departments with minimal government support.
The deputy governor maintained that government is investing massively in industrial projects expected to yield benefits soon for the sustainable development of the state and asked the council to evolve systematic memo to enable government address them.
Speaking the chairman governing council of the college, Dr Stephen Adah said they were in government House to present the new substantive Provost to government as well as it's challenges for necessary action.
Some of the problems included, the payment of accreditation funds and dwindling imprests as well as brain drain and vehicles for the Provost and other principal officers of the college.
On his part, the Provost of the college, Dr James Etim expressed appreciation to government for finding him worthy to serve in that capacity, stating that he was proud to be associated with the Ayade led administration whose visionary and dynamic leadership has brought about great transformation in many sectors as education, agriculture, health care delivery and industrialization.
