Rovers FC pays courtesy call on State Accountant General Joseph Adie

The management of State-owned football team, Rovers Football Club, Friday, paid a courtesy call on the Accountant General of Cross River State, Mr Joseph Adie NEGROIDHAVEN can report. This visit, it was learnt, was informed by the impending kick-off of the football season due for Wednesday 3rd April. 
In the meeting which took place in Calabar the state capital city, the management of the football club represented by the General Manager Mr Ebam Ejen, Secretary of the football club George Obiotu, Mr Jimmy Okotu (TM), and team Technical Adviser Etta Egbe acknowledged the contribution of the Accountant General to the team in particular and the state in general while pronouncing the AG as ‘Patron of Rovers FC’. While reacting the AG Joseph expressed elation for the honour done him and pledged committment to the progress of the team. High point of the visit was the presentation of the team kits to the AG. 

While reacting to the news of his appointment as patron, Joseph said, ‘I am sure that the GM will testify that my doors are very opened. And for this gesture, like I did mention, I am challenged. I am a footballer, so you should know that I will take keen interest. And I will give priority attention too and my own personal contributions will come in, that I assure you so long as I remain the Accountant General and even outside here if God continues to bless me.’
The management of Rovers FC used the opportunity to impress on the AG thr imminent kick-off of the football season and the need for the Office of the Accountant General to fast-track the release of the monthly subvention for the team. On his part, the AG assured of his office’s commitment. 
His words, ‘There’s paucity of funds these days, and Rovers is not an exception. Even in government circle very little has been done concerning development and all that because of the paucity of funds. At least His Excellency is trying so much that most times he still meets his obligations. I can assure you that as things get better definitely Rovers will get all it requires. It will be a matter of working hard and seeing to the fact that government gets more funds and then all of us will clap our hands for Rovers, for government. 
On the pronouncements of the governor in respect of the increase in subvention to the team, the AG said, ‘I think the Governor has done well, we need to follow up. Because after that pronouncements… it was last year’s budget, maybe it was not captured. This year we need to make sure it comes in then we do the needful. It’s a matter of reminding me or the Commissioner or the sport authority, but definitely I am assuring you that I will push it.’
