CALABAR —A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State, Hon. Koko Dan, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.
The Tribunal had on Wednesday struck out a petition filed by the People's Democratic Party presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, seeking the disqualification of President Buhari in the February 23rd general election on the alleged grounds that he did not possess the West African Examination Council certificate.
In a press release made available to journalists on Thursday, Koko Dan, lauded the Tribunal verdict, describing it as a reflection of the people's wishes. He noted that the judgement has further consolidated Nigeria's democracy, and also a proof that the judiciary is indeed the last hope of the common man, which President Buhari aptly represents.
He expressed hope that the President would sail through should the opposition wish to pursue their case to the highest level of the judiciary.
Koko, who was the APC candidate for the Bekwara, Obanliku and Obudu Federal Constituency seat in the 2019 elections, however called on the opposition to sheathe their sword and join hands with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to steer the country towards the path of peace, security and progress.
The release further adds that "the President could not afford distraction at such a critical time like this when the country is grappling with both domestic and foreign upheavals as manifested in the porous security situation in the country and the xenophobic attacks on Nigerian citizens in South Africa".
It averred that "the President is already demonstrating immense capacity to tackling these problems", saying "at this juncture, President Buhari needs the support of all stakeholders in the Nigerian project to surmount the tasks ahead".
