A level-14 officer with the Cross River State Ministry of Education, Effiong Archibong, has been arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court and remanded at the Afokang Correctional Home (formerly Afokang Prison), Calabar, for allegedly giving false information to the state Commissioner of Police.
Archibong’s prosecution was ordered by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6, Calabar, Musa Kimo.
The self-styled evangelist had in January written a petition against Dominion City Church accusing it of forcible entry and breaking into his land upon which the police wrongfully arrested the pastor as well as the contractors building the church auditorium.
Police investigation later revealed that the church was actually in possession of the property since 2017, having received it as a free will gift from a non-member and that some of the church members were actually residing in the property.
It was gathered that there was a pending civil matter in court before Justice Ayade of the state High Court, Calabar.
It was alleged that not satisfied with the outcome of the court case, Archibong resorted to self-help by misleading the police by giving them false information leading to the closure of the church site.
Archibong, in his subsequent statement to the police, denied ownership of the property, but stated that the church commenced its building project without seeking his consent.
