Humans have been enjoined to cultivate the habit of gratitude to benefactors through thanksgiving to God, a gesture which enables such individuals to support their lives on Earth.
A cleric, Reverend Father Joseph Agbor issued the charge during a special thanksgiving mass held in the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Calabar by Friends of Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Out to mark his 60th Birthday. He said that such gratitude will enable them to benefit from more benevolence and prosperity through God as the ruler of the universe who dictates the lives of His creation.
Reverend Agbor recalled Biblical injunctions such as applicable during the healing of the Three Lepers in which only one returned to appreciate God thereby receiving healing according to divine faith as decreed by the Creator.
I am quite sure that there are many beneficiaries of the goodwill of the Senator while in the government that are not here for this Mass, which should not be so.
“However, it should be emphasized that God will always continue to bless a cheerful giver and extend divine goodwill to beneficiaries that are grateful at every gesture,” the cleric admonished.
The solemn mass was attended by a cross section of prominent members of the committee such as the former Chairmen of Calabar Municipality, Hon. Maurice Ekpo Iso, Calabar South, Elder Mrs. Christy Ise and that of Odukpani in Cross River South Senatorial District, Hon. Stephen Asuquo among others. The first Bible Reading was taken by Mrs. Winifred Okon Rtd. Comptroller of Nigerian Customs.
Earlier the group had donated some foodstuff and condiments to the inmates of the Infant Jesus Orphanage Home located in Bateba Street, Calabar to commemorate the birthday of the Senator in continuation of his annual gesture.
Receiving the materials, the Supervisor of the Home, Sister Christiana expressed appreciation, acknowledging that it would assist further in the task of wearing the unfortunate kids and toddlers.
The Chairman of the group, Elder Bassey Offiong Bassey reiterated that it is a continuity of an annual gesture of their friend and mentor, Senator Basseu Otu, who due to the exigencies of his calling could not be present for it even as he has mandated them to assure the down-trodden that their welfare will continue to attract his attention equally as he continues to assist his fans as well as the ill-opportuned in the society.
